Position: Junior Coordinators (Research)

The Bay Area Climate Change Council (BACCC) is an organization that is committed to protecting and conserving the environment by promoting the transition to a low carbon emission economy in Burlington and Hamilton. BACCC is seeking enthusiastic individuals to join our team as Junior Coordinators.

Reporting to the BACCC Manager, the successful applicants will assist with a variety of activities that engage the community and stakeholders on climate change action and support emissions reductions in the building, transportation and industrial sectors. Successful applicants will demonstrate effective communications, a professional attitude, and the ability to remain focused and effectively work from home.

BACCC is administratively housed at Mohawk College and these positions will work remotely.

This role is made possible by a federal Canada Summer Jobs Grant that requires the successful candidate to:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment,
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations

These qualifications must be met in order to secure funding.


Duties will vary based on the assignment. Duties may include:

  • Support and take direction from the Manager, Bay Area Climate Change Council
  • Assist the BACCC team to complete emission reduction activities in the transportation sector to help transition to a low carbon emission economy
  • Research effective climate policy and programs
  • Assisting in collecting, analyzing and summarizing data including transportation data
  • Ensuring efficient and proper handling of research data
  • Assisting in report writing and data tracking, as needed
  • Supporting stakeholder outreach activities, such as identifying potential stakeholders and planning meetings
  • Coordinate outreach activities among local organizations for climate action, including local Indigenous populations, visible minorities, seniors, and women
  • Demonstrate effective and professional communications among local organizations for outreach
  • Provide information to community partners and stakeholders on BACCC’s work and climate action
  • Utilize digital systems, tools and applications to share information on climate action policy and initiatives


  • Experience in comparative policy analysis
  • Familiarity with transportation planning practices
  • Strong writing skills, with experience in report writing
  • Knowledge of sustainable transportation concepts and practices would be an asset
  • Strong knowledge of research methodology (qualitative and quantitative)
  • Experience in assisting with the collection and proper handling of research data
  • Ability to work independently in a virtual working environment
  • An understanding and commitment to the principles of equity, diversity and inclusivity
  • Demonstrate effective and professional communications
  • Familiarity with the Hamilton and Burlington area, local issues and organizations is an asset
