The Opportunity:

As our Regenerative Designer, you will be the lead in telling the story of landscapes and identifying creative strategies for how to best integrate within them.

What you’ll do:

• Lead our unique landscape assessment (Living Story), which includes:
  • GIS data mapping and flow modelling (e.g. solar, wind, hydrological, geological, topographical)
  • Socio-ecological asset mapping
  • Ecological performance assessments
  • Resiliency mapping – threats and pressures, opportunities and trajectories
  • Economic forecasts of ecological services and climate change impacts
• Map climate simulations and performance of existing and proposed buildings
• Be our go-to for resilient land use planning strategies and designs

What you’ll need:

Biomimicry Frontiers is looking for top talent. We want a candidate with a strong commitment to sustainability who is highly creative while handling complex ecological challenges. They must have a keen eye for innovative design and site planning, and excellent leadership and communication skills. They must also be committed to our mission, have an entrepreneurial spirit, and have an acute attention to detail. We are searching for someone who is motivated, well organized, and efficient, who is aligned with our pursuits and vision.

To succeed, you must have:

• Four (4) year Bachelor of Science in environmetrics, GIS, landscape architecture, architecture, urban design, ecology, or related disciplines with proficiency in ecological modeling and a minimum of two (2) years of previous experience or equivalent education and experience
• Expertise in Geographic Information System software such as ArcGIS Pro or QGIS
• Proficiency in computational architecture and modeling software (e.g. AutoCad, Rhino, Grasshopper, Sketchup, Revit, spatial R, Adobe suite)
• Demonstrated expertise with statistical and flow modeling techniques
• Experience with Environmental Assessments, site planning, and urban design; ecological design, green infrastructure, and environmental resiliency; plant identification and planting design; Indigenous/indigenous knowledge keeping
• Deep understanding of ecology, systems, and ecological engineering
• Innovative approaches to sustainable land-use strategies and resilience planning
• A solid understanding of the science behind climate change, the interdependencies between the various systems that are affected by climate change, and the measures that are needed at the various micro and macro levels;
• An ability to quantify long-term impacts of climate change and the economic value of ecological services
• Experience in project acquisition, project management, and team leadership
• Have demonstrated creative thinking in past projects
• Excellent visual and writing communication skills, including the ability to simplify complex ideas

Salary will be competitive with potential bonuses.

This is a full-time position.

We are a Guelph, Ontario based team working remotely. Our ideal candidate will have a work-from-home environment. Our core working hours are from 9 am until 3 pm EST, where we expect you to be available. However, you can fit your workday around that schedule to a total of 40 hours per week.
