For Our Kids organizes Canadian parents and grandparents to fight the climate crisis out of love for our kids, grandkids, and future generations. We take a distributed organizing approach, encouraging parents and grandparents to form or join local teams to take collective action in their communities, and providing support as needed. Job Summary

This position directly enables For Our Kids' front-line organizing work to happen. You'll build financial support for this important work by communicating with foundations, prospecting for new leads, crafting proposals, and reporting on past successes. You'll work with local teams, helping them tell their stories in order to inspire others, and you'll work closely with the rest of the national team to set priorities, monitor results, and adapt accordingly.

Job Description and Duties

  • Assist with prospecting for new grants, writing grant proposals, and grant reporting
  • Collect and share stories by local teams in written and visual forms
  • Be primary lead on For Our Kids social media accounts, including basic design work
  • Assist with email communication via our NationBuilder system
  • Assist with pitching stories to traditional media outlets
  • Write and publish web copy and update website as needed
  • Support the Organizers with communication within the network as needed
  • Pitch in with network events as needed

Governance

We work collaboratively as a team, but formally this role reports to the For Our Kids Coordinator. Together, you will co-design work plans and check in by weekly video call, one-on-one or with other team members. This is a part-time contract with flexible hours of work, noting that parents/grandparents in the network often can only meet with you outside of regular office hours – evenings or weekends.

Summary of Qualification and Experience

As the successful candidate, you have a good combination of the following:

  • Strong interest in climate issues and empathy with parenting/grandparenting
  • 5 years relevant experience with communication and/or grant writing
  • A strong, clear writing style and ability to tell good stories
  • Savvy with computers, digital tools, and social media, with a willingness to train to proficiency on specific systems
  • A team player and willingness to pitch in and roll with changing circumstances
  • Basic digital design skills
  • Great attention to detail and ability to keep details organized
  • A willingness to work non-conventional hours
  • Fluency in English; French proficiency is a bonus

Hours and Remuneration

The contract is for 25 hours a week at $30-35/hour + GST, depending on experience. There will be an initial 2-month trial period.
