Position: Water Resources Engineer
Organization: Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority

The Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority and Otonabee Conservation have a full time position open for a Water Resources Engineer to be shared between the two organizations.

Location: This position will be working out of the Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority administrative office in Port Hope located on the corner of Hwys. 28 and 401, and the Otonabee Region Conservation Authority administrative office located on Milroy Drive in Peterborough.


  • A degree from a recognized university in water resources engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng) by Professional Engineers Ontario.
  • Skilled in hydrologic and hydraulic modelling to support flood plain mapping studies.
  • Knowledge of stormwater management practices (experience in LID an asset).
  • Excellent computer skills, proficient in Microsoft Office software suite and floodplain modelling tools e.g. Visual OTTHYMO, HEC-RAS, and SWMM (GIS skills an asset).
  • Understanding of the Conservation Authorities Act and applicable regulations.
  • Knowledge of erosion and sediment control practices.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written and must have the ability to make presentations to municipal councils and general public meeting forums.
  • Knowledge of municipal planning, current water/environmental management principals, and technologies including relevant federal and provincial legislation.
  • Innovative, dynamic and results-driven leader, passionate self-directed learner.
  • The successful applicant must be able to adapt to an environment of change, recognize that there is a requirement to time-share and balance commitments between the two Authorities and work well independently as well as in a team environment meeting defined deadlines.
  • A valid Province of Ontario drivers licence is also required.

Duties Include:

  • Provide engineering services and support which include, but are not limited to, flood plain mapping studies including hydrologic and hydraulic modelling and associated reporting and mentoring of technical staff.
  • Provide technical review of the engineering aspects of development applications circulated under the Planning Act, received under Ontario Regulations 167/06 and 168/06 and other applications/proposals as directed, consistent with natural hazard management principles, Provincial, Municipal and Conservation Authority guidelines, and accepted engineering standards and practices, using good judgement and consistent, effective decision making.
  • Provide technical and engineering assistance to projects as required including but not limited to, project design, work plan development, and contract management.
  • Assist in collection of field data in support of the Authority’s programs.
  • Provide technical assistance and support in the Authority’s Flood Forecasting and Warning program.

Salary $76,484 - $89,982 (currently under review)
