Position: Donor Development and Stewardship Contractor
Organization: Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society - Ottawa Valley Chapter
Location: Ottawa-Gatineau, Ontario/Quebec

The Ottawa Valley Chapter of the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWSOV) is a non-profit organization based in Gatineau, Quebec with a mission to protect natural areas in parks and other types of protected areas in the Ottawa River Watershed region of Quebec and Ontario. The organization is also active in connecting people, in particular, youth to nature through education programming. Founded in 1969, the organization is one of thirteen chapters of the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society, a national charitable organization. The organization was voted one of the best Canadian charities by Charity Intelligence in terms of donor accountability and financial transparency.

Position - Assignment Description:

Reporting to the Executive Director and working closely with volunteer members of the Fundraising Committee and other national and chapter level staff, the Contractor will be responsible for developing, leading and implementing a revenue strategy for the organization focused on individual donors. In particular the Contractor will be expected to deliver on the following outputs:

  • A review of the fundraising events of other CPAWS Chapters across the country and environmental organizations in Ottawa or elsewhere, to gather information and new ideas for CPAWS-OV’s fundraising strategy. Preparation of a summary document.
  • Identification of strategies to increase the number of Individual Donors to the Ottawa Valley Chapter: one-time, lapsed and monthly donors. Begin the implementation of the strategy.
  • Development of a strategy to increase the amount of donations from the current donor base of approximately 1300 people,
  • Develop a plan to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward potential major donors and assist in its implementation.
  • Develop strategy and assist in the execution of at least one stewardship (cultivation and recognition) event for CPAWS-OV donors and prospects.

Required Skills:

  • Proven competency in the field of direct fundraising. Minimum five years fundraising experience required. Recruiting from major and mid range donors will be a major component of this work and the incumbent should have some experience with donors of this level.
  • Strong organizational and data management skills. The candidate must be able to efficiently track, report on and manage interactions with donors in our database.
  • General understanding of wilderness conservation issues and the ability to communicate the work of CPAWS Ottawa Valley in a way that resonates with donors.
  • Self direction, creativity, and the ability to develop and execute outcome-oriented plans with explicit goals, targets and metrics. Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills, ability to work independently.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to communicate in French would be considered an asset for this position

Location and nature of the work

This is an output based contract with possibility of renewal or ongoing engagement should the organization be satisfied with the results.

The organization is based in Gatineau, Quebec but it is not necessary for the contractor to work from the office. It is expected that the contractor will meet with the Executive Director at the office as required.

Value of the contract:

The contract is valued at $8000.00 including all taxes (QST, GST, HST) and fees (including travel to the CPAWS-OV office). Payment shall be issued in installments upon completion of major milestones and upon submission of invoices. The details of which shall be negotiated with the preferred candidate.
