THE POSITION:

BurlingtonGreen is seeking a passionate, organized, flexible, outgoing, self-motivated, experienced professional to join our team serving as the Development Manager responsible for various fundraising efforts to shape a more sustainable future for our charity.

JOB PURPOSE:

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Development Manager will work with the Organization’s staff and board in its development and fundraising efforts. The Development Manager will be responsible for coordinating, delivering and evaluating a comprehensive range of fundraising strategies and associated marketing campaigns to achieve the Organization’s funding goals.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

New Fundraising & Revenue Opportunities:

  • In collaboration with the Executive Director, develop a fundraising strategy for corporate, foundation, individual and public sources, to reach the organization’s identified growth objectives
  • Based on the organization’s fundraising strategies and in conjunction with the Executive Director, create and maintain a fundraising work plan, providing regular updates to the Executive Director on the status of the plan’s execution
  • Liaise with the Executive Director to continually advance the development of the vision, strategy, and work plan for the organization’s fundraising goals, refining tactics, materials and pitch accordingly
  • Identify and solicit prospective donors and grant opportunities
  • Prepare and attend meetings and calls with prospective donors including proposals and materials, carefully tailored to the prospect’s strategies and goals
  • Target and attend events/meetings/conferences in order to secure new donors, funders or partners and/or to steward existing relationships
  • Prepare grant applications to advance the organization’s strategic priorities
  • Keep carefully organized records and files with existing and prospective donors
  • Provide insight and research to explore new funding sources for either existing or new initiatives
  • Prepare donor/partner agreements and accountability reports in alignment with BurlingtonGreen policies and practices taking into account each donor’s/partner’s preferences to the extent possible

Existing Donors & Partners:

  • Maintain productive communications with all donors, funders and partners both as a group and personally in order to steward and grow relationships and ensure that each of them feels they are getting value from their investments
  • Seek the views and inputs of all donors on BurlingtonGreen activities, events and projects
  • Ensure donors, funders and partners are appropriately represented in the Organization’s publications and communications work
  • Maintain donor/funder/partnership agreements in accordance with BurlingtonGreen policy
  • Process incoming donations, partnerships, memberships and grant funds in accordance with BurlingtonGreen’s practices and policies
  • Manage donor database, tracking donor contributions, ensuring accurate inputs and generation of statistical and accountability reports

Marketing & Public Communications:

  • In consultation with the Executive Director, collaborate with staff to plan and deliver communication campaigns, marketing strategies, and responses to media inquiries to effectively advance fundraising objectives
  • Enhance BurlingtonGreen’s overall marketing culture and drive a growth and funding culture internally
  • Capture key logistics and planning actions to facilitate, and ensure professional communications that align with BurlingtonGreen communications practice and IT platforms
  • Develop special events announcements, brochures, posters, social media text, web copy and advertisements to promote the organization’s fundraising activities
  • Publicize events and campaigns by updating and cultivating media contacts to produce maximum media coverage
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for BurlingtonGreen fundraising communications and programming and identify opportunities/needs for staff and directors to participate in the execution of the program
  • Drive traffic to the BurlingtonGreen website, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages and further engage the public and target audiences through these social media platforms

Other:

  • Execute expenditures as per approved budget process
  • Work in accordance with applicable health and safety legislation, policies and procedures
  • Perform such other duties that may be assigned by the Executive Director to support targeted outcomes, including the supervision of program-related interns/volunteers and employees

Hours: 35 - 40 hours/week. Primarily daytime work with occasional evening and weekend shifts.

Pay: $24/hr(43,600-50,000)

Duration: 4-year contract with the opportunity for continued employment.

Attire: Mostly business casual with occasional business dress required for meetings and presentations.

Other: 2 weeks (70 -80 hours) paid vacation time off per year. Work-related mileage expenses are paid. Own transportation and laptop computer are required.

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

As a strong candidate, you have a passion for helping to mobilize the community to create a healthier, more environmentally responsible Burlington and:

  • Completed university or college education (or equivalent experience), in a related field such as development, communications, marketing, business management
  • Relevant fundraising and donor development experience; experience in a charitable, non-profit environment is highly desired
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain sound relationships with representatives from non-profit and private sectors
  • Proven track record of hitting or exceeding performance targets for new donor and partnership acquisition
  • Must have the ability to strategically develop systems that will have longevity
  • Detail-oriented, extremely organized, conscientious with top-notch time management skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal (including public speaking), with strong networking, community building, and engagement skills
  • Experience in managing website, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram platforms and strong skills in engaging the public and target audiences through these social media platforms
  • Strong computer skills including all MS Office applications as well as social media tools
  • Excellent research, analytical, evaluation and reporting skills
  • Experience preparing work plans and organizational forms to capture logistics and planning actions with strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Dynamic, proactive, creative, flexible
  • Available evenings and weekends and willing to travel within Halton Region
  • Own transportation and laptop computer are required
  • Valid Vulnerable Sector Screening Report (will be requested on offer of hire)
