Leaf House Small Space Design and Build is looking for a carpenter to join an existing crew on a unique Whitehorse based project from August to September. The project is four 300ft2 passive solar units, super insulated with dense-pack cellulose and straw bales. The buildings have some interesting features, including concrete countertops, shou sugi-ban charred siding, American Clay plaster, FSC certified wood, and other unique green-building construction techniques.
The units are situated on granite rocks in a treed lot in the City of Whitehorse. Work will include a variety of tasks, including interior finishing, siding, insulating, building boardwalks and custom decks, and some more custom and artistic projects such as a sauna.
Experience, a range of carpentry skills, competency with home construction, and self-direction is required. You don't necessarily need your red seal, but you do need to be able to know how to build a house and complete a variety of carpentry tasks. There is some flexibility with hours, and tenting on site for accomodation may be an option.
For more information about the project please contact by email. Wages range from $30-$33 an hour, depending on experience and skillset.
