Positions: Green Event Crew Member

City/Town/Region: Hiring for positions in Calgary, Edmonton and/or Vancouver/Surrey.

Start Date: June 15th, 2019
Completion Date: September 30th, 2019

Time Commitment: Casual, varying throughout the event season

Compensation: $15.00 - $18.00 / hour depending on experience

Position Scope of Work:

Green Event Crew Members work as part of a team to set up recycling stations, keep designated event spaces clean, transport collected waste material, and sort all collected material at events. This job will provide great opportunities to gain work experience in sustainability, educate festival attendees about waste reduction, and have a positive impact on our environment and communities.

Our ideal candidate is an observant and diligent worker with strong communication skills. The role requires a knack for educating the public about waste management while maintaining a positive attitude working long hours in varying weather conditions. Crew members are expected to manage waste in a safe and professional way. This is a team supported position reporting to event leads.

Work varies week to week depending on our event schedule, so flexibility is key.


  • Promptly arrive on-site at specified date and time

  • Follow Health & Safety Procedures as outlined by Green Event Services

  • Set up recycling stations and other equipment (including signage and other supplies) throughout event sites as instructed by Logistics Leads

  • Change and replace full compost, recycling and garbage bags at recycling stations

  • Transport all collected waste material to designated drop-off locations throughout the event site

  • Pick up litter and micro waste throughout event site to maintain a high level of cleanliness at all times

  • Sort through collected material for contamination and continually ensure safety and cleanliness of sorting stations

  • Troubleshoot event issues and relay information back to Area Managers or Event Leads

  • Work as a team and in close collaboration with other crew members

  • Educate event patrons about waste diversion, waste reduction and the move towards zero waste

  • Enthusiastic team player

  • Ability to work under the following conditions:

    • Work outdoors

    • Working within large crowds of people

    • Working in an environment with a high noise volume

    • Stand or walk for up to 12 hours

    • Work weekend and evening shifts

    • Lift up to 24 kg

Position Expectations:

  • Work in/around downtown Calgary, and other events in Alberta and B.C.

  • Professionalism, honesty, integrity and a constructive outlook

  • Monthly performance reviews

  • Paid training to be completed two weeks from start date:

    • Orientation and onboarding

    • Crew member training

    • Health and safety training

Not Required but considered an asset:

  • Experience working with large events and festivals

  • Experience working with waste, recycling and compost
