Position: Business Development Manager
Organization: TerraCycle Canada

Job Description


The Business Development Manager will be responsible for driving TerraCycle’s growth in the Canadian market via creating new recycling partnerships in Canada and managing a growing team of two Business Development Associates. Primary responsibilities include identifying and securing new partners for TerraCycle’s national recycling and Zero Waste Box programs, managing the Canadian Business Development team, generally supporting the TerraCycle Canada team and assisting the greater North American Business Development on creating new partnerships. The position reports directly to the Associate Director of North American Business Development.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Creating new recycling partnerships (closing deals), driving significant revenue and profit growth for TerraCycle Canada
    • Drive the sales process and negotiations from start to signed agreement
    • Drive complex sales opportunities with support from Associate Director of North American Business Development and/or Global VP of Business Development
    • Research potential new sales avenues, targets, etc. for the Canadian market
    • Support the NA BD Associate Director in creating more robust strategies to leverage existing partnerships to drive new business, overcome sales obstacles and manage TerraCycle relationships
  • Manage a team of Canadian Business Development Associates
    • Support BD Associates on the sales process, negotiation, etc. and promote pipeline development
    • Define and manage the team’s strategy with Associate Director of North American Brand Partnerships
    • Create and manage KPI, lead performance reviews and ensure support and growth of Business Development Associates
  • Contribute to the growth of the Canadian Business Development team
    • Benchmark, learn and disseminate to the team on business intelligence, recycling, consumer attitudes and responses to recycling in Canada, Sustainability in Canada, FMCG industry, zero waste initiatives
    • Report to NA BD Associate Director on results, progress, KPIs, needs
    • Contribute, when applicable, to building/enhancing processes for the Canadian BD team


  • Excellent research, writing and communication skills, ability to prepare clear and concise client-ready documents
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Strong project management skills
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically PowerPoint & Excel
  • Entrepreneurial spirit (ability to work autonomously)
  • 2 – 4 years of sales and management experience with demonstrated leadership skills
  • Experience in the consumer packaged goods industry and/or experience with social enterprise preferred
  • Demonstrated skills in negotiating and closing business opportunities and/or experience in developing a brand an asset
  • The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, start-up, small office environment and juggle multiple responsibilities amidst shifting deadlines and priorities
  • French-language skills preferable
