Position: Digital Learning & Client Relations Assistant
Organization: Vancouver Botanical Gardens Association
Location: Vancouver, BC
Eligibility: unemployed, underemployed or hold part-time employment, between 15-30 (see below)

Vancouver Botanical Gardens Association (VBGA), joint operating partner of VanDusen Botanical Garden and Bloedel Conservatory with the Vancouver Park Board, is seeking a Digital Learning & Client Relations Assistant to further our mission to engage people in the importance of biodiversity to our lives, and to foster a lifelong love of plants and gardens.

Position Overview
Reporting to the Director of Education and working closely within the Education Department, the successful candidate will support all aspects of Portal to Nature, the VBGA’s online learning platform, including program and content development, marketing, registration, course facilitation, and participant evaluation assessment. Working cross-functionally, the candidate will serve as a communications hub in the department. Digital communication skills are critical to effectively interact with clients across social media, email, and website platforms.

Responsibilities

Digital Marketing & Communications

  • Construct, edit, and respond to email communication with general and targeted audiences
  • Create content for social media and other online marketing for environmental education programs
  • Create graphic design and video production for programs and digital marketing

Online Course Development & Operations

  • Ensure client access and satisfaction with our virtual programs and software
  • Oversee client relationship and registration database, including creating new events, running financial and other reports, and reconciling accounts
  • Schedule and host synchronous online classes and provide technical support to instructors and participants
  • Develop interactive activities for classes and programs
  • Oversee online program evaluation from design, distribution and analysis

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Post-secondary degree in digital marketing, communications, business administration or related field, or equivalent experience
  • Strong customer service skills, with experience in conflict resolution, nonviolent communication, or crisis communications preferred
  • Experience working in an non-profit or environmental educational setting an asset

Required Skills

  • Working knowledge of client relationship management (CRM) software (Amilia prefered), MailChimp, WordPress, social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram), graphic design and video editing software (InDesign, Photoshop, etc.), online learning and meeting platforms (Thinkific, Zoom), Microsoft Suite (including Teams), Google Drive
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work well with a team with a diversity of working styles
  • Outstanding attention to detail and organizational skills

  • Thinks strategically and is creative in planning and problem-solving
  • Proactive on projects - confident in asking questions, generating ideas, and being a self-starter

  • Dedication to environmental awareness and sustainable living

Availability & Duration

  • Full time (35 hours), Monday-Friday
  • Some evening and weekend work as needed
  • Placement runs until March 31 2021

Wage

$22/hr + 4% vacation pay in lieu

The position is funded by the EcoCanada Digital Skills for Youth Grant. Candidates must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents or persons who have been granted refugee status in Canada. They must be unemployed, underemployed or hold part-time employment.
