Position: Researcher (Summer Intern-Paid)
Type: age 30 & under / summer

The Researcher will support the Principal, Curriculum, and Education Manager to conduct and analyze data gathered through evidence-based research, in order to articulate the value and power of Outward Bound Canada programs. Specific research topics include the benefits of nature, climate change (and links to eco-anxiety), and diversity, equity, and inclusion. This will also involve literature searches and report writing to add and compare to public bodies of research.

This will be accomplished through the creation and analysis of surveys and questionnaires, and literature reviews. The Researcher will have a keen attention to detail, strong knowledge of organizing data in spreadsheets (excel/gsheets) and editing using word processing tools (word / gdoc), and will be resourceful in conducting research and curating articles.


  • Location: Remote (preferably close to one of our operating areas: Vancouver Island, Vancouver, Canmore, Toronto, Minden)
  • Starting Rate: $17.50/hour
  • Term: 8 Weeks Contract Term (35 hours per week)

  • Anticipated Start Date: July 2022


  • Initial analysis of research findings for draft reports and deliverables to managers and/or clients.
  • Liaise with various team members, networks, and organizations as needed for specific data needs.
  • Prepare and assist with the development of reports including content review and preparation, formatting, and presentation enhancement.
  • Collate and organize testimonials and program reviews for feedback and marketing.
  • Research existing data collections, compilations, and/or reporting methodologies.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

  • Experience in education and/or conservation.
  • Experience publishing documents with ePublication software and eReaders.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft software, including Word, Excel, etc., and Google platforms (gdoc, gsheet etc.)
  • Excellent presentation skills, ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Effective time-management skills with the ability to meet deadlines, and achieve targets in a team environment.
  • Strong understanding of topics related to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Strong interest in connecting with nature, experiential education, and environmental issues.
  • Good understanding of and interest in the outdoor industry.
  • Passion, personal alignment, and commitment to the mission of Outward Bound Canada.


  • Degree or diploma in Education or related field; environmental education or conservation.


The position is in collaboration with the Canada Summer Jobs program and has eligibility criteria including:

  • Between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment.
  • A Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee protection act.
  • Legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations
