Details: The Mottled duskywing is an endangered butterfly in Canada and our research examines the demography and viability of remaining populations in southern Ontario. We are seeking enthusiastic, up-and-coming field ecologists to join our 2021 field team (late May to mid-July). Assistants will work closely with a graduate student and help conduct butterfly mark-resighting and vegetation surveys at various sites in the Rice Lake Plains area. Accommodation provided.

Duties:

• Assist in daily butterfly mark-resighting surveys in rare prairie and savanna habitats
• Record data efficiently and accurately in the field
• Communicate effectively with members of the public and employees of partner agencies

Qualifications:

• A strong interest in butterfly ecology, entomology, and/or conservation
• An affinity for being outdoors and working well within groups
• Transportation to and from accommodation site at beginning and end of contract
• Preference will be given to candidates currently enrolled at a Canadian university or college who qualify for the Eco Canada Student Work Placement Program
