Position: Biodynamic Farm apprentices (2 positions)
Type: full-time apprentice/intern with room, partial board, stipend, more (details)
Organization: Saugeen River CSA
Location: Durham, Ontario (north of Kitchener-Wateloo, Guelph)
Come learn and work with plants, animals and the land for a season on our 80 acre Biodynamic farm. We have been immersed in the local food movement for the past 20 years growing vegetables, herbs and flowers for our 80 local CSA members and a local market. No experience is required, just an enthusiasm for work and a willingness to learn!
Apprentices have been learning and working at the Saugeen River CSA since 1998. Most come with little or no experience in agriculture and leave with a solid foundation in many aspects of sustainable Biodynamic and organic farming. The farm is designed to give apprentices experience with a wide range of farming and gardening skills: greenhouse management, market garden production (with over 200 varieties of vegetables, herbs and flowers), elementary draft horse work, rotational grazing for cattle and horses, rearing pigs, chickens and ducks, CSA and market sales, root cellaring, food preservation, vegetable seed saving, soft fruit production – all within the context of a living Biodynamic Farm.
The Saugeen River CSA is an 80 acre farm that provides 75 families and individuals in our community with fresh Biodynamic produce in summer and fall, and 40 families through the winter months. 2 or 3 apprentices live, learn and work on the farm from April to November in exchange for a stipend, room and board and informal classes on different aspects of agriculture. Cory Eichman is the farmer/teacher with over 25 years experience in Biodynamic CSA management and over 10 years experience teaching courses in Biodynamic farming and gardening.
