Position: Sustainability & Francophone Coordinator
Type: 6-month paid contract / internship

Greening Sacred Spaces (GSS) is a practical program supporting faith and cultural communities in developing sustainable practices at their facilities. The program focuses primarily on energy conservation, mission per square foot, environmental education, and outdoor greening. We are looking for a local staff person in Ottawa (30 hours/week) to support sustainability and francophone activities. The position will emphasize clean technology and environmental solutions within multicultural communities. As we work to document energy efficiency, renewable energy, and cleantech activities within the multicultural community, this position will emphasize working with Francophone communities in the Ottawa area.

Internship duration: 6 months

Hours per Week: 30

Start Date: 2017/05/15 (flexible start date)

End Date: 2017/11/30

Education Requirements: Recent graduates (less than three years) from a post-secondary STEM program

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct all activities in accordance with the ecological mission of Greening Sacred Spaces and Faith & the Common Good.
  • Coordinate cleantech and sustainability outreach in the Francophone sector in Ottawa. Track and manage sustainability and clean technology actions undertaken in these communities.
  • Coordinate Francophone outreach in the Ottawa area within multicultural communities
  • Lead French translation of materials and resources for communities.
  • Provide updates and identify opportunities for community outreach and marketing.
  • Assist in other program delivery activities in the region
  • Attend key sustainability events on behalf of the organization

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Experience working with multicultural communities
  • Knowledge and understanding of environmental issues and eco-sustainable solutions
  • Experience with networking
  • Experience with working with volunteers
  • Experience and comfort speaking in front of groups
  • Must be creative, energetic, flexible, motivated, and well-organized
  • Must be completely bilingual and capable of writing and working in French.

Eligible interns are:

  • 30 years of age or under at the start of the internship
  • Recent graduates from a post-secondary science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) program
  • Canadian citizens, permanent residents or persons granted refugee status in Canada
  • Legally allowed to work according to the relevant provincial legislation and regulations
  • Not receiving employment insurance during their internship
  • Available to work for at least six months
