Position: Field Operations Team Lead
Organization: Vancouver Bike Share Inc.
Location: Vancouver, BC

About the Position:

The Field Team Lead works under the direction and guidance of both the Operations Manager and the Operations Coordinator to oversee daily operations, including but not limited to station balancing, station installations and changes, station maintenance, on street fleet maintenance, workplace safety, the helmet program and team productivity. This leadership role focuses on in-field work with some headquarters-based responsibilities. The Field Team Lead is an expert in the tasks, processes, procedures, tools and equipment involved in Vancouver Bike Share’s day-to-day operations and can effectively lead, teach, and delegate tasks to the operations crew team members in these activities.

This role can expect a regular Saturday or Sunday shift involving duty manager coverage, and requires at least 1 day of weekend availability on an ongoing basis. This is a permanent, full-time position with a salary and paid vacation time. Additionally, participation in duty manager coverage is expected (1 evening a week of phone availability in exchange for banked time in lieu).

43-46k based on experience plus vacation and full benefits after eligibility period completed.


  • Coordination of the day-to-day tasks and priorities of the Operations field team (i.e. Balancing & Support shifts)
  • Leading station installs and removals
  • Monitoring and responding to station communication issues and station maintenance/repair needs
  • Coordination of van and support vehicle maintenance & cleaning
  • Workflow coordination of broken bikes and the workshop repair pipeline
  • Monitor and model compliance of Operations-related standard operating procedures
  • Report operational needs regarding tools, equipment, supplies and inventory to manager/supervisor
  • Maintain accurate inventory & maintenance records
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the VBS shop, vehicles, work sites, and storage areas
  • Monitor the communication channels of the Operations team, respond to issues as they arise, and maintain effective communication with the team
  • Assist in the execution of core operational tasks including:

    • Bike balancing: loading and unloading bicycles from service vehicles and stations
    • Bicycle, station, and equipment cleaning
    • Bicycle assembly & repair
    • Use of system hardware, software, tools & equipment
  • Assist in the establishment of new protocols and procedures
  • Participate in Duty Manager after hours coverage schedule
  • Lead by example through professionalism, effective teamwork, and respect
  • Additional duties as assigned by manager/supervisor
  • Specialized skillset assets:

    • Automotive: ability to assess needed van repairs and manage maintenance schedules
    • Mechanical aptitude: bike repair, concrete work, metal work, carpentry, and/or general construction experience is an asset.
