Hiring: Youth Climate Corps Crew Member

Location: Kimberley / Cranbrook / Kootenays BC (Local candidates preferred; for the right candidate will consider across Canada; working around the Kootenays region with a mixture of in-field and at-home work.)
Wildsight's Youth Climate Corps is hiring for new seasons in the West Kootenay and Kimberley-Cranbrook regions!
Explore what drives your passion for climate action with the Youth Climate Corps. Become a part of a program that combines employment with on-the-job skills training while working on climate solutions. Contracts focus on projects that mitigate and reduce the effects of climate change and bring resilience to our local communities and ecosystems. Crew members will work and learn in their communities while gaining valuable connections in a variety of industries. This summer season, we will be operating in two different locations, each focused on its own suite of projects.
Climate Action Technician
Skills Focus: This season Kimberley - Cranbrook Youth Climate Corps will work to implement on-the-ground climate action projects in Kimberley, Cranbrook and surrounding East Kootenay communities. Our work will focus largely on the ecosystems in our region. Some of our projects include a small stream and wetland enhancement project, wildfire risk reduction, whitebark pine recovery, pollinator meadow restoration and more. Through this work, successful applicants will be exposed to a broad range of disciplines, and areas of expertise. Crew members can expect to work and train in an outdoor setting, learning different management, restoration and monitoring techniques.
Community Climate Ambassador
Skills Focus: This season of the West Kootenay Youth Climate Corps is working to support localized government climate action. We will collaborate with the Regional District of Central Kootenay, the City of Nelson and potentially other municipalities within the RDCK to promote and increase the intake of their community climate programs. Through this work, we endeavour to support successful applicants through training to engage in meaningful conversations with diverse public about tangible climate measures. Ambassadors will attend public events throughout the summer, directly engaging with community members to promote local climate change solutions. Crew members can expect to become informed on a wide range of regional and municipal climate plans and programs, working within a variety of community settings and learning about public outreach.
Special Considerations: This crew will hold a preference for local crew members, but will also consider applications from candidates outside of the RDCK.
Wildsight is looking to hire local youth with the following parameters:
Compensation: $20/hr (with additional 4% vacation pay), plus certifications and training.
