Volunteer position: Trail Director – Sydenham East

Responsible for the planning and oversight of maintenance, and overall quality of the Trail through the eastern half of the Sydenham section, and for the overall organization of trail work with Trail Captains and other trail volunteers.

This person will have a passion for the Bruce Trail, and is willing to work at something they believe in – a high quality Trail in the forests and fields along the Escarpment. Someone that gets along with people and can lead volunteers. Some computer skills and good communication skills are also important.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain an accurate roster of Trail Captains and other trail volunteers.
  • Work cooperatively with Trail Captains regarding the planning, organizing, and execution of regular trail maintenance.
  • Provide on-going support and training for Trail Captains and Trail workers, about safety while working on the Trail, and standards and methods for maintaining the Trail
  • Regularly monitor the state of the Trail via Trail Status Reports from Trail Captains and from individual hikers, and ensure that trail problems are corrected in a timely manner.
  • Organize work parties for Trail re-routes or large maintenance projects. Ensure all necessary approvals, permits, and landowner permission are in place beforehand.
  • Collaborate as needed with Trail Director – Sydenham West
