APPRENTICESHIP WORK TRADE

Position: Tea Room, garden & field work apprenticeship 
Type: vol. / exchange for full board and lodging (see below)

Location: 5km south of Courtenay, Vancouver Island, BC

Innisfree Farm and Botanic Garden is looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic team member to help us run our tea room this summer. Work trade opportunity (25 hours per week for full room and board) plus $2250 value in education, and tips from the tea room.

Join the farm apprenticeship program that starts mid May with work trade for garden and field work until the tea room opens July 1st. Learn to grow the food and herbs we serve, then when the tea room opens you would switch schedules to run it Friday, Saturday, Sunday till mid September.

Tasks would include opening and closing routine – set up and clean up (9 am - 5 pm three days per week), barista and counter service, making smoothies, coffees, specialty teas, serving baked good and plating up light lunches, customer service.

In return you will receive:

• Private room in trailer or barn loft, shared kitchen and common areas with other apprentices
• All pantry staples and fresh foods, laundry, wifi
• Weekly classes and tutorials on herbal medicine, nature and health. Attendance at the Vancouver Island Herbal Gathering. 125 hours available over 4 months. Extensive library and learning resources. Personal learning plans to suit all levels of knowledge.
• We are a busy venue with frequent catered events and activities. Possibility of further paid kitchen / food prep and service work for the right person.
