VOLUNTEER POSITIONS

Role: Student Ambassadors
Organization: Meal Exchange
Location: anywhere in Quebec
Term: Immediate - June 2022
Compensation: Ambassadors will be paid a $800 honorarium, dispersed in two installments

Meal Exchange is looking for motivated and passionate post-secondary students from across Quebec to be a part of the Canada’s Food Guide Student Ambassador Network. This is an exciting opportunity for students to engage their peers through food, create change on campus, and inform government initiatives. This project is in partnership with Health Canada’s Office of Nutrition Policy and Promotion.

Role Overview

The key roles of the student ambassadors are to engage other students and campus administration in the healthy eating recommendations from Canada’s Food Guide, build relationships with decision makers on campus to ensure that good food is accessible on their campus, and to inform the development of new resources associated with Canada’s Food Guide.

Responsibilities:

  • Attend network-wide meetings and trainings that provide connection points between ambassadors, educational resources, and support (2-3 meetings/semester)
  • Consult other students on campus to learn their thoughts about food on campus and feedback on Canada’s Food Guide
  • Plan events and activities to promote healthy eating recommendations and engage students in conversations about campus food
  • Initiate conversations with campus food service providers and administrators, to bring forward student priorities of how to better embed healthy eating on campus
  • Provide advice, during meetings or other communication platforms, to help inform the development of new Canada’s food guide resources
  • Track activities according to evaluation templates provided
  • Participate in a survey at the begin and end of the position term

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • Interest and passion for food and how it nourishes the wellbeing of individuals, communities and the planet.
  • Experience organizing campus events or other student engagement activities
  • Excellent interpersonal, self-management, organizational, and communication skills
  • Able to work independently and participate actively in a remote team environment
  • Experience with social media and other communications channels
  • Familiar with how change happens on campus and capacity to connect with students, faculty, administrators, and staff

Compensation: Ambassadors will be paid a $800 honorarium, dispersed in two installments

(Sept 2021- $400, March 2022- $400).
