Role: Event Calendar Manager - Communications Volunteer

Volunteer Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic volunteer for the newsletter team to help keep the GNN website event calendar up-to-date with the many exciting GNN member-group green events happening every month across the City.


  • Learn about all the fun and inspiring green groups and activities happening across our city.
  • Learn about event promotion and newsletter editing from fellow members of the GNN communications team.
  • Connect with passionate volunteers from across the city who are making Toronto greener, healthier, and more sustainable.
  • Flexible schedule with possibility to work from home.
  • Letter of recommendation and volunteer certificate.

Volunteer Tasks

  • Follow the Facebook Event Pages of GNN’s member groups.
  • Follow Eventbrite organizers associated with GNN’s member groups.
  • Look at the upcoming events hosted or promoted by GNN’s neighbourhood member-groups and city-wide partners.
  • Show member groups how to share their Google event calendar with GNN
  • When necessary, contact the event organizers to get confirmation of information such as location, date or time.
  • Populate the GNN website event calendar with GNN member groups’ events.
  • Help highlight member events in GNN’s monthly e-newsletter.

Preferred Skills

  • Time management and organizational skills.
  • Comfortable working with Google Calendar, Eventbrite and Social Media apps such as Facebook and Twitter.
  • Comfortable working with MS Office.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Interest in community events and environmental issues.

Orientation and Training

The Event Calendar Manager will receive onboarding, training, advice, and support from members of the GNN Communications team and GNN Steering Committee members.

Time Commitment

2-4 hours a week for 3-6 months with possibility of extension.
