Position: Lay Councillor
Organization: The Association of BC Forest Professionals
Location: anywhere in BC

The Association of BC Forest Professionals (ABCFP) (est. 1947) registers and regulates professional foresters and forest technologists. While currently under the authority of the Foresters Act, The Foresters Act will soon be repealed, and the Association of BC Forest Professionals will become a ‘regulatory body’ governed by the Professional Governance Act (PGA). The PGA, passed in November 2018, is coming into force by stages, with the transition from the Foresters Act to the PGA anticipated in Fall of 2020. More information about the PGA can be found at  

 The successful candidate must: 

  • be a BC resident;
  • not be a registrant of the ABCFP;
  • have no immediate family members in the profession;
  • be free of conflicts of interest or perceived conflicts of interest. 

 Attributes, skills and interests sought in lay councillor candidates include: 

  • broad interest in forest policy and the management of BC’s forest resources.
  • time to devote to Council and committee business (approx. 12-15 days annually).
  • ability to absorb and grasp substantial volumes of information.
  • experience in non-profit association governance.
  • experience in professional regulation and related administrative law.
  • willingness to travel within BC.
  • a record of community service.
  • no need for financial compensation beyond out-of-pocket expense recovery.
  • ability to communicate via electronic means (phone, fax and e-mail).
