WORK & VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY

Position: Housekeeper/Dog Handler
Company: Arctic Chalet Resort
Location: Near Inuvik, Northwest Territories. Housing provided
Type: Paid Position

Property Description

The Arctic Chalet is a beautifully landscaped eco-friendly, non-smoking tourist establishment located near Inuvik in the Canadian Arctic, Northwest Territories. We provide beautiful cabin accommodations, rental cars and other services. We also offer an educational program called Husky School that all of our staff participate in which is separate from the work contract. This is for those who are passionate about learning all about husky sled dogs while working with them.

About our Huskies

Our White Huskies are a unique, white, blue-eyed Arctic husky breed (Siberian/Malamute) and are beautiful, intelligent and strong with wonderful dispositions. There are 28 adults currently living in our kennel, all in need of attention! These dogs are very well socialized and interact beautifully with people. This is a great opportunity to learn all about husky sled dogs .

Our dogs live in a kennel complex with nicely organized pens that makes working there very efficient. Staff share the responsibility of taking care of our huskies and sometimes boarding dogs from the community. Daily kennel duties include feeding, watering, cleaning pens. Staff help with exercising and training the dogs individually as well as in the dog teams. In summer we exercise the dogs using 4-wheeler ATVs.

So...if you have experience with animals or dogs in particular and can relate well to them, if you are interested in working in the tourism industry, if you have a spirit of adventure and if you love nature and are ambitious, this experience may be perfect for you!

Position Available for the rest of the Summer and Fall

We have a position available for the summer helping us take care of our 28 huskies and doing other duties pertaining to our tourism business such as cleaning guest rooms and rental cars, working in our green house and doing other yard work.  We will pay $15.50 per hour.

General Benefits

To live and work in the Arctic is a wonderful adventure and for many it has been an experience of a lifetime. Staff will have the chance to immerse themselves into our natural surroundings where nature is beautiful and wild. Sometimes we offer opportunities to our staff to participate in some of our personal adventures that may include hiking trips and travel to other Arctic communities.  Staff can enjoy campfires together, canoeing and hiking right from the property.   Best of all is the time spent with the huskies.

To meet our conservative standards, employees should practice good hygiene and be clean, neat and tidy, non-smoking, non-drinking and drug-free (includes the use of Canabis).  Socializing in town is not an option.  These requirements also include having no visible tattoos, body piercings or radical hair styles. For men we require a short clean-cut hair style which will be maintained throughout the work term. A staff contract must be signed prior to arrival.  Most importantly, staff must be legal to work in Canada. We do not get involved with sponsorships.

Please read our WORK page on the web site and then email us and include several recent photos or yourself, a resume and a letter of introduction telling about yourself and why you would like to work up here with us in the Arctic.
