Position: Sci-Comm Specialist
Organization: Community Climate Council
Location: Mississauga/ Brampton/ Caledon/ Peel Region, Ontario

Type: volunteer / unpaid
Term: 1 year, open to renewal
Time Commitment: 5-10 hours/week

Role Description:

The Community Climate Council is seeking 2 Sci-Comm Specialists who will report to the Research & Education Team Lead and work closely with the Communications Team. They will research climate science topics, climate news, and policies to create educational science communication content for the website’s ‘Learn ’section and social media. Our vision at The CCC is to take an intergenerational approach to increase Climate Literacy in the Peel Region. This role will play a key factor in enabling this goal to become a reality.


  • Research and organize information on climate science topics, climate news, and policies
  • Work closely with the Communications team to transition findings for usage for web and social media content
  • Take complex research and present it in a clear concise way through posts and other platforms
  • Must fact check and make sure all information released is up-to-date, correct, and cited properly
  • Work independently and with supervision
  • Monitor environmental trends and news to seek out new opportunities
  • Work with members of the public to educate Peel residents on topics relating to climate change


  • Proven experience in science communications with a background in education
  • Up-to-date knowledge of climate science topics, climate news, and policies
  • A creative and strategic thinker
  • Proven track record of developing high-impact research and educational initiatives
  • Strong initiative, good judgment, tactfulness, and political awareness
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong proofreading skills
  • Knowledge of how to cite work and references correctly
  • Strong organizational skills and knowledge to prioritize and work with little supervision
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and peers
  • Able to work effectively within firm deadlines
  • Work well within guidelines and feedback
  • Experience in local/international policy an asset
