Are you a newcomer to Canada and interested in a career in the environmental sector?
TRCA's NEWCOMER YOUTH GREEN ECONOMY PROJECT IS NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS!
The Newcomer Youth Green Economy Project (NYGEP) is a powerful, free opportunity for newcomer youth ages 18-35 to start or advance a career in the Canadian environmental sector and grow professionally through job skills training, networking events, project placements, mentorship, field trips, and community connections.
What do participants receive?
NYGEP is a Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) initiative, funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, that is helping to produce new leaders in conservation.
Throughout the five-month part-time program, participants will have access to learning opportunities in the following environmental education career pathways:
Professional Project Placements
Participants will be placed with a host employer in one of the four environmental career pathways (see above) for an experiential learning opportunity. The host employer will provide a mentor who will guide a group of participants (per career pathway) through completion of a real-world project.
Job Search & Corporate Culture Training
Eight half-day workshops in which you will learn about corporate culture and job search skills in the environmental sector. You will prepare your resumé and perfect your interview skills. Training is delivered one Saturday per week over the first two months of the program.
Dates: Fall Session (October 28, 2023 - March 25, 2024)
Participants will receive 10 hours of TRCA online training on job search, corporate culture, and communication.
In-Person and Virtual Field Trips
We host a number of educational field trips* per cohort to learn about the local environment, career pathways, and to build community connections.
