Location: near Duncan, Vancouver Island, BC
Type: residential, income-sharing positions with housing, food, transportation, more (see below)
House Coordinators needed to join our energetic, life-sharing community
Glenora Farm is a residential community on southern Vancouver Island where caregivers and companions with developmental challenges share life and work in extended family-type houses, in a variety of craft workshops and on our 100-acre biodynamic farm. We are part of the international movement known as Camphill, and a member of the Camphill Association of North America.
House coordinators oversee the safety and well-being of everyone in their household, coach new coworkers in their duties and responsibilities, and work together to create a balanced, caring environment. They also participate in the overall functioning of the community through involvement in group/committee work, seasonal and social events, and bring their own ideas and creativity to the process.
Applicants should have Canadian status or a visa that allows them to work in Canada, and be open to a commitment of two years or more. Start date immediately, can be moved for right applicants.

Full job description:
Our Life on the Farm
The Glenora Farm Carrying Coworker group is comprised of individuals who have committed to live and work in the community for three years or longer. This group is responsible for “carrying” Glenora Farm forward, in line with the community's common goals. We share the work of the farm and life together as a community of coworkers, neighbours and caregivers. Our residential care homes are set up in an extended family setting, consisting of: 1 or 2 House Coordinators, 2 - 3 short-term volunteer Coworkers, 4-6 Companions and (in some cases) staff children all sharing life together within the home. We share meals, participate in typical household responsibilities, go on outings, celebrate festivals and special events and work together to navigate conflicts.
It is our endeavor to create an environment in which those who are in need of special care, and those who provide it, can relate to each other as companions rather than as professionals and clients. In the way we live together, in the way we care for the land and in the things we make, we intend to uphold the ideals of Camphill, in which each contributes what he or she is able to and receives in turn what he or she needs.
Purpose of the Position
The House Coordinator is responsible to provide a safe and warm home environment. The House Coordinator, together with the team of Coworkers, takes a lead to coordinate daily and weekly activities, meetings.
Our Companions require support in their activities of daily life, which includes appointments, errands and personal care. The House Coordinator organizes and ensures adequate support is provided by the team of Coworkers in the household.
The House Coordinator is responsible to adhere to all licensing standards and requirements.
The Ita Wegman Association of BC is a registered charity that operates Glenora Farm, a 100-acre biodynamic farm located just south of Duncan on Vancouver Island. We are a life-sharing community, where adults with developmental disabilities live, work, and learn together with their caregivers. Cultural, artistic and therapeutic experiences are provided through residential home care and day program activities. It is our belief that given space, time and support, each person has the potential to thrive.

Duties & Responsibilities
Hours of Work
This is a life sharing situation. We live as an extended family. The hours are not fixed as such but we aim to lead a balanced life which therefore includes free time. We have one day off a week and one weekend off a month, as well as 4 weeks holiday a year.
In life-sharing we are not paid by the hour. We share the responsibility and the work that needs to be done. Individuals who join us will be part of our “income sharing community”. We share our income to cover each other’s needs which allows us to focus on our work. The housing, the food, transportation, the medical care and the personal money we receive is not payment for services rendered, but we receive it to be a productive part of the community.
