Toronto Green Community (TGC) is a registered Charity with a mission to inspire, facilitate and support diverse communities in developing an environmentally sustainable city through education, engagement and joint neighbourhood initiatives. Led by a volunteer board of directors, and a small professional team of staff, TGC is dedicated to connecting communities in Toronto with each other and their environment among a sea of concrete and glass.

TGC is seeking nominations to fill a volunteer Board Member position with a passionate and enthusiastic individual who is able to dedicate their time and expertise to support the charity’s goals and objectives.

The Role

The Director will contribute to the Board and Toronto Green Community in order to provide support and guidance that will aid the organization in fulfilling its mission and vision while upholding the organization's values. We are a nimble and driven team that welcomes those who relish being able to take decisive action to build a greener, healthier, and more inclusive Toronto.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Lead or participate in the operations of the organization (Marketing, Fundraising, Human Resources, Programs, Finance & Administration)

  • Participate in the development/benchmarking of Toronto Green Community’s Strategic plan through an annual review process

  • Approve and monitor the annual budget and fiduciary responsibilities

  • Create and approve policies that guide the board, its committees, staff, members and volunteers

  • Engage in problem-solving and strategic discussions with fellow board members, to reach a consensus on high-level decisions

  • Assist in developing and maintaining positive relations with members of the board, staff, committees, corporations, local businesses, Indigenous and diverse communities

  • Recommend actions based on experience/training in your field of expertise


Commit to volunteer approximately 8-12 hours monthly, open to a 2-year board term, and attend at least 10 of the 12 board meetings (yearly) in person in Toronto or virtually


Your experience should align to one of the areas listed below:

  • Leadership (professional and/or on a non-profit Board of Directors)

  • Community Engagement, Outreach, Partnership-building (community, funder, government)

  • Fundraising (i.e. individual & corporate donations, sponsorship, grants, events)

  • Social Enterprise, Non-Profits, Charities

  • Gardening & Landscaping, Storm-water Management, Sustainability, Environmental Issues
