Position: Carpenter/ Maintenance Worker
Company: Arctic Chalet Resort
Location: Near Inuvik, Northwest Territories. Housing provided
Type: Paid Position or Volunteer

Property Description

The Arctic Chalet is a beautifully landscaped eco-friendly, non-smoking tourist establishment located near Inuvik in the Canadian Arctic, Northwest Territories. We provide beautiful guest cabin accommodations, rental cars and adventure tours above the Arctic Circle.

Position Available for April/May possibly June 2023 and into summertime

We have a position available for someone handy to help us to rebuild a guest cabin that was damaged by a fire last winter and we would also like some help with general maintenance. This might be a fun position for a retired individual looking to spend some time up north.

General Benefits

To live and work in the Arctic is a wonderful adventure and for many it has been an experience of a lifetime. Staff will have the chance to immerse themselves into our natural surroundings where nature is beautiful and wild. Sometimes we offer opportunities to our staff to participate in some of our personal adventures that may include hiking trips and travel to other Arctic communities.  Our paid employees can also opt to volunteer some time helping to train and to take care of our White Husky sled dogs.  In early April we are still dogsledding.

We provide staff housing, usually in a private room furnished with towels and bedding. All rooms have an oil heater and some rooms have
running water, but most do not. A Bath House with showers and flush toilets and sinks is available for staff use. Also a laundry facility. Staff usually cook their own food in a cummunal kitchen.

We provide high-speed wireless internet for keeping in touch with family and friends.

Staff members should be physically fit, well-groomed, non-smoking, non-drinking and drug-free (includes vaping and the use of Canabis). These requirements also include having no visible tattoos, body piercings or radical hair styles. For men we require a short clean-cut hair style and beard which will be maintained throughout the work term. A staff contract must be signed prior to arrival. Most importantly, staff must be legal to work in Canada. We do not get involved with sponsorships. A drivers licence is required.

Application Process

Please read our WORK page on the web site and then email us and include several recent photos or yourself, a resume and a letter of introduction telling about yourself and why you would like to work up here with us in the Arctic. Make sure you can afford the flights to Inuvik before you apply for work!
