Position: Content Writer
Organization: Business Takeout
Location: Virtual/Remote, anywhere in Canada

Business takeout is a non-profit social enterprise that provides business education, information, and resources for the black community. After recognizing the substantial wealth disparity within our society, we are committed to improving racial equity and justice through our strong network and advocacy platform.

Our mission is to end poverty in Canadian black communities and increase black wealth through empowerment, business education and training programs, and entrepreneurship opportunities.

We are looking to expand our team! Our organization is searching for a talented Content Writer to create compelling blog posts, social media content and web copy. We are looking for someone who will help us expand our digital footprint and drive more value through compelling online content. Although our initiative focuses on the black community, we foster a diverse and inclusive environment and welcome your application. Job Title: Content Writer

Purpose: Developing creative content for Business Takeout’s website, blogs, articles, descriptions, and social media platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Conducting research on current business topics and trends (combining online sources, interviews, and studies) to develop original content.
  2. Developing creative content for blogs, articles, social media, and website to promote our platform and services.
  3. Utilize industry best practices and familiarity with the organization's mission to inspire ideas and content.
  4. Assisting the program director and executive assistant in developing content for advertising campaigns.
  5. Creating compelling headlines and descriptions that will capture the attention of our audience.
  6. Monitor and analyze the performance of key performance indicators (KPIs) to offer suggestions for improvement.
  7. Organize writing schedules to complete drafts of content or writing projects within deadlines.
  8. Follow an editorial calendar, collaborating with the Business Takeout team to ensure timely delivery of written materials.
  9. Use search engine optimization (SEO) strategies in writing to maximize the online visibility of a website in search results.

Key Requirements:

  1. Student or recent graduate from a journalism/public relations program considered an asset.
  2. Excellent writing and editing skills.
  3. Impeccable grasp of the English language, including idioms and current trends in slang and expressions.
  4. Ability to work independently with little or no daily supervision.
  5. Strong interpersonal skills and willingness to communicate with clients, colleagues, and management.
  6. Ability to work on multiple projects with different objectives simultaneously.
  7. Proficiency with computers, Google Docs and Microsoft Word.
  8. Familiarity with Business Takeout’s brand image, products, and services.
  9. Must be dependable and punctual.
  10. Must be courteous and personable
  11. Must be self-directed, willing to take initiative, and detail oriented.
  12. Strict adherence to the organization’s policies and procedures including confidentiality.

Schedule:

Monday, Wednesday, and Friday (10:00 to 2:00 pm)
