The College of Applied Biology (the College) is the regulator of applied biology professionals in British Columbia. Established by government legislation in 2003, the College protects the public interest by ensuring that applied biology professionals – Registered Professional Biologists (RPBios), Registered Biology Technologists (RBTechs) and Applied Biology Technicians (ABTs) – meet rigorous standards of professional and ethical competency. While currently under the authority of the College of Applied Biology Act, the College of Applied Biology Act will soon be repealed, and the College will become a ‘regulatory body’ governed by the Professional Governance Act (PGA). The PGA, passed in November 2018, is coming into force by stages, with the transition from the College of Applied Biology Act to the PGA anticipated in Fall 2020. More information about the PGA can be found at www.professionalgovernancebc.ca.
