Position: Animal Care Internship
Organization: Haliburton Forest & Wild Life Reserve Ltd.
Location: Haliburton Forest, near Haliburton, Ontario

Remun.: vol. + weekly allowance for food, free accommodations
Term: 4 months or longer

The Haliburton Forest & Wild Life Reserve is looking for an Animal Care Intern for the 2020 / 2021 season, ideally the intern would come onboard in early fall 2020 and help though until March of 2021. If you are someone that loves the outdoors, has a passion for animals, and wants to see what Haliburton Forest has to offer than this role is right up your alley!

We are pleased to say that we have been facilitating Outdoor Education programs for over 20 years. Haliburton Forest prides itself on having the largest classroom anywhere. With more than 80,000 acres of forests, 60 lakes, 300 wetlands and countless wildlife, this is a classroom like none other. The programs and facilities that have been built are as unique as the Forest itself. Each program is specifically designed using the staff and facilities to create unique and unparalleled learning opportunities.

The Animal Care Intern will be responsible for:

  • Fall dog sled training
  • General animal care (food, water, grooming, yard cleaning, kennel cleaning, etc.)
  • Assisting with kennel tours
  • Assisting with dog sled tours
  • Equipment Maintenance (sleds, lines, etc.)
  • General maintenance of the kennel facility (gates, kennels, etc.)
  • Competing all tasks in accordance with the Health & Safety policies of Haliburton Forest

Internships are non-paying however; Interns receive a weekly allowance for food and laundry plus free accommodations in exchange for the work that they would perform. Internships run for 4 months or longer. Interns work an average of 5 days per week during the core hours of 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and work under the supervision of a full-time staff to first watch, assist, then work on their own as they become confident and comfortable.
