YOUTH CLIMATE ACTION

Are you a young person (16-29) in the GTA who wants to learn about sustainability and climate action while developing the skills needed to become an agent of sustainable change in your community? 

Passionate about the environment and want to bring positive change to your community? Explore sustainability, climate change, healthy living, and community impact with the Youth Climate Action Initiative!

This 12-Week Program Consists of:

  • Weekly climate, sustainability and leadership focused learning sessions.
  • Mentorship and support to develop your own Community Climate Action Project.
  • Community events and hands-on workshops.
  • Nature-based activities such as urban gardening, tree planting, and forest therapy walks.
  • Access to professional development for green career exploration.

Program Details:

  • Free
  • Hybrid format
  • Reimbursement for transit expenses
  • 2-4 hours commitment per week
  • Sustainability Leader Certificate following the completion of the program

Eligibility:

  • Youth ages 16-29
  • Resides in or around the GTA, particularly in the Jane and Finch, Weston, Thorncliffe Park, Flemingdon Park, and Black Creek areas
  • Has an interest in sustainability and community climate action

How to Apply:

  • Fill out the application form telling us why you are interested in joining the program! 
  • Select a 12-week cohort to join:
    • Spring 2024 (April 18th - July 4th) - Applications Due Fri. April 12th, 2024
    • Summer 2024 (July 25th - October 10th) - Applications Due Fri. July 12th, 2024

YCAI Advisory Committee

Do you envision yourself as a future leader in building sustainable communities? If so, we invite you to step up and join our Youth Climate Action Initiative advisory committee!

Our advisory committee is a dedicated group of young leaders who are committed to driving positive change in their communities and beyond. By joining the committee, you'll have the opportunity to work closely with our team, share your ideas and perspectives, and help shape the direction of our youth climate action initiative and Sustainable Communities programming.

Objectives

  • Collaborative Engagement: The advisory committee serves as a platform for youth to engage directly with our staff on questions, concerns, opinions, and ideas related to the youth climate action initiative and sustainability issues in their communities.
  • Influence Programming: Committee members will play a role in influencing the development of programming, events, and initiatives aimed at addressing climate change and promoting sustainability.
  • Event Planning: Committee members will have the opportunity to offer input and assistance with planning external events, such as career fairs and youth symposiums, to raise awareness and mobilize action on climate issues.
