VOLUNTEER POSITIONS

Needed: Energy Volunteers
Organization: Relay Education (TREC Charitable Foundation)
Location: Vancouver Region, Regina, Muscowpetung First Nation, Calgary, Halifax, Ottawa, Six Nations/Brantford, Montreal

Duration: Per session (by day)
Start date: Specific dates in May and June
Salary: $150 stipend per a day in the form of a Master or Visa gift card (8 hours)
Status: Volunteer
Additional requirements: Access to a vehicle and a valid driver’s license are required in regions without consistent transit system.

Activity Description

Relay Education is running Energy Days across the country that will engage schools with hands-on activities.

Relay Education utilizes science-based learning in all of our programs. Relay’s programming educates students about science curriculum-linked topics such as electricity, energy resources, conservation, and career building.

We are looking for dependable individuals who can provide a day of programming to students in a controlled enviroment.

We are looking for volunteers in the following locations:

  • Vancouver region (4 dates TBA)
  • Regina (May 9th and TBA)
  • Muscowpetung First Nation (May 31st)
  • Calgary (May 9th and TBA)
  • Montreal (TBA)
  • Six Nations (TBA)
  • Halifax (TBA)
  • Ottawa (May 2nd and 3rd)

As a volunteer in this role, you will be trained by a Relay Education faciliator to lead interactive 12-14 minute activities with a group of 8 elementary students at a time. This group of 8 students will rotate between you and others to participate in hands-on activities that are linked to solar enegy, wind energy, bio gas, circuits, and/or energy conservation. You will engage up to 16 of these groups a day in the same space.

Duties and Responsibilities

The volunteer will coordinate with the Relay Education lead in their region

  • Arrive early to the site and check into the school and wait for instructions
  • (optional) Particpate in remote training if it is offered by the Relay Education lead.
  • Read the mini lessons and coordinate with the Relay Education lead for training

Qualifications

  • Experience in speaking to groups and diverse audiences of various age levels;
  • (Asset) Experience in speaking to and interacting with groups of children 9-13 years old
  • (Asset) Science background
  • Knowledge of and passion for environmental issues;
  • Ability to lift 20-50 pounds;
  • (Asset) Recent Vulnerble Sector screening
