Hiring: Outdoor facilitator

Location: Vancouver, BC

Fresh Air Learning is seeking a skilled outdoor facilitator who enjoys working with children in an outdoor, emergent learning environment. This position is for various summer camps as well as possible substitute work leading into the fall. Our popular camps run for children ages 3-12 in forest, field, and garden environments in various locations in Vancouver and North Vancouver. A bit about you:

• You have strong social-emotional skills and can observe and support children in the moment and long term, drawing children into the group and giving them space when needed
• You have experience working with groups in an outdoor environment, and you are confident working with co-facilitators and children to gather the group, make plans, and assess risks
• You are affirmative of children’s experiences, interests, and ways of being
• You have experience working with children ages 3-7, ideally in multi-aged, neurodiverse groups
• You are passionate about some or all of the following: plants, wildlife, ecology, nature-based art and music, and you’re eager to expand your knowledge.
• You are happy to work outdoors in all weather
• You have or are willing to get certified in first aid, and you have a clear criminal record check.

Hours: Camps run in the month of July from M-F for 2.5 or 5 hrs depending on the camp. Staff are paid teaching time, plus 1.5 hrs prep per class. Additional work may be available in the fall.

Locations: Everett Crowley Park, Lower Seymour Conservation Reserve, Lynn Canyon and other areas around Vancouver. All locations are either transit-accessible or transportation can be arranged.
