Positions: Farm Hands and/or Farm Manager
Farm: Black Ash Gardens
Location: near Collingwood, Ontario

Black Ash Gardens is looking for 2 full time farm workers and/or a Farm Manager for the 2024 season.

Black Ash Gardens is located 10minutes from downtown Collingwood, Ontario.

We are a small scale, 'organic' market garden with about an acre and a half of permanent raised beds. We subscribed to a no-till, Elliot Coleman/JM Fortier style of Market Gardening. We use organic compost, we do alot of broadforking and use a BCS with a power harrow to mantain the beds. Our best selling crops are Salanova, Arugula, Mustard Greens, Beets, Carrots, Cilantro, Parsley, Dill, Cherry Tomatoes, Kale, Eggplant, Peppers, Summer Squash, Onions, Shallots and more. We utilize a paperpot for the majority of our transplanting but still do some hand transplanting. We believe in weeding early and often so there isn't too much hand weeding and you will never hand weed on your own!

We sell to anyone and everyone but our main sales channels are the on farm stand, Collingwood Farmers Market, Thornbury Farmers Market, Wasaga Beach Farmers market and a few independant grocerys stores.

Previous experience is not required but a willingness to learn, a positive attitude and the ability to work on your feet and in the outdoors is a must. Starting wages are based on experience. I believe in a graduated wage. For example my full time employee last year started at $17/hour, moved to $18/hour after 2months and then moved to $19 an hour for their last 2 months. If you have experience I can start you at a higher wage. If you are willing to use/learn how to use the BCS we can graduate you to an even higher wage. It would be great to have someone who can drive and run a farmers market every other weekend. If you are willing to work a Farmers Market I can increase your wage. Basically you show me you are invested, you care and you can help me make money I will reward you.

I can be flexible but for the most part you'd work from 6am to 3pm with a paid 30min lunch and two 15min breaks

Hourly wage is between $17 and $25 depending on your abilities
