HOMESTEAD / HOBBY FARMSTAY / WORK EXCHANGE

Role: Organic Gardener/ Permaculture Landscaper
Type: work exchange (not a job)
Host: Phoenix Farm

Location: Salt Spring Island BC (accommodations provided)
Term: at least 3 weeks stay preferred

Be part of a creative Agricultural Tourism Farmstay experience on a bright and sunny open landscape 18 acres Hobby Farm and Campground with fruit orchards, a vineyard, swimming and watering ponds, the watershed and a common playing field. We use only organic materials and permaculture practices for gardening berries, and vegetables, food processing and fermentations, seed saving, and value-added farm goods.

Our work trade season for hosting you starts when pruning at the end of February, and we work together through the growing season until the end of the Apple Harvest in Oct. We may be able to accommodate during the winter months as well when mulching and preparing gardens can be done.

As your host, I work as a Designer by trade attending the local Artisan market during the summer months and work preparing and vending value-added food products from the farm and at our farm stand. I like to participate in all work trade and alternative building projects to be well integrated into a social and sustainable farming educational culture.

This work exchange is for 15 hrs/ week for accommodations only and is based on a 3-day work week of 5 hr/day during your stay. I hope to find a like-minded suitable participant who wants to stay and live in our small community for a longer term and see the seasons change together.

Please inquire to see photos of what is available at the time. More opportunities are possible for a full work trade with meals in the coming seasons as we expand our facilities.
