Position: Human Resources Coordinator
Organization: Community Energy Association
Location: remote – anywhere in Canada

Overview

Community Energy Association (CEA) is seeking a Human Resources Coordinator to join the Corporate Services team to provide human resources support and guidance in diverse areas including full-cycle recruitment activities, employee relations, job evaluation, performance management, policy development and other HR related projects. This role will serve as a resource for all staff and will support the continuation and strengthening of the core values in our people-centered organization.

Our work includes creating community projects and plans, implementing infrastructure projects, facilitating opportunities to share information and build collaboration among communities and sectors, and developing public engagement campaigns. These activities are funded by public and private organizations that share a commitment to local climate leadership.

About the Position

  • Experience-based compensation based on a 35-hour work week:
    • This position will fall into our A2-Band Level: $60,000 - $70,000 with room for growth as our team grows and evolves.
  • Employment type: Permanent salaried staff
  • Location: Remote within Canada
  • Workplace: Home office with computer and home office allowance provided
  • Competitive benefits package and 5 weeks’ annual vacation (pro-rated based on start date)

Desired Competencies

Extremely important

  • Diploma or degree in Human Resources or related discipline
  • 1-3 yrs. professional experience with Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation
  • Full cycle recruitment experience in a dynamic and fast-moving organization
  • Experience with HR in project-based organizations or non-profit societies
  • Strong personal interest in climate action
  • Self-directed and comfortable with remote work
  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic

Important

  • Ability to manage a diverse range of responsibilities
  • Experience with HR Systems (Experience with Zoho People is an asset)
  • Collaborative and open-minded
  • Detail oriented
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)
  • Strong knowledge/ understanding of Employment Standards

Useful

  • Experience with equity-focused human resource management
  • Experience with benefits administration
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting organizations in development of equity policy and strategies
  • Creative, flexible, and proactive problem-solving approach

Duties Summary

This position will comprise:

  • Hiring
    • Manage fair and transparent hiring and recruitment processes, including job postings, contracts, onboarding, benefits, and transitions.
  • Staff Support
    • Be a point person for internal human resource questions, concerns, and support, including management of internal conflict or concerns, benefits administration, training, etc.
  • Management support
    • Provide support to the management team on HR policies, employee performance and coaching, employee relations, workforce planning (hiring) and change initiatives.
  • Equity
    • Support the development and implementation of organizational equity planning and policies, internal engagement, cross-cultural education, etc.
  • Policy Development and Interpretation
    • Play an active role as a member of the policy planning committee to review, develop policies and provide policy guidance and interpretation of employment standards.
    • Support continuous improvements in HR processes, policies, and practices, ensuring adaptability to evolving organizational needs and industry trends.
  • Risk Management
    • Identify, communicate, and mitigate HR-related risks and opportunities to the organization.
  • Training & Development
    • Support staff professional development and identify/coordinate training for both individuals and as whole organization.
  • Development and Connection
    • Participate in management team meetings to identify opportunities to support staff resilience, wellness and development.
    • Identify and coordinate team connection opportunities; manage the visibility of agendas and report outs from Executive Team and Management Team as necessary.
