Position: Eco-Tour Guide
Type: full-time seasonal (May-Sept 2017); relocation assistance (see below); students and non-students welcome to apply

NOTE: This position requires temporary relocation to Pelee Island, Ontario, from May to September, 2017 (start and end dates can be negotiated). Explore Pelee assists all staff in acquiring affordable accommodations, but only those who are committed to relocating will be considered.

The eco-tourism based company Explore Pelee was established by Anne Marie Fortner 10 years ago with the hope of igniting tourists’ interest in the human and natural history of Canada’s most southern ecological gem. Over the last decade, Explore Pelee has gone from offering simple biking tours of Pelee Island to providing biking tours, motor tours, shuttle service, accommodations and anything else visitors require. In 2016 we added two rickshaws to our fleet and now offer rickshaw rides between the West Dock and Pelee Island Winery Pavilion. With Explore Pelee, no two days are ever the same.

What To Expect:

Tour Guiding: Guide tourists/students around Pelee Island, delivering human and natural history. Guide will be trained in basic plants, trees, animals, reptiles, etc. Collecting tour fees, co-ordinating recreational activities, describing points of interest, resolving itinerary and other problems, develop and deliver commentaries, attend to customers' special needs.

Tour Types: Bike Tours, Walking Tours, Motor Tours, Step-on-Tour Guide Service, as well as Environmental Field Trips for students. Some tours will be biking up to 30km around the island (3-4 hours), other tours will be driving around the island. The tours are at a casual pace and the island is flat.

Administrative Duties: When tours are not busy, employee will be servicing vehicles, updating databases, answering emails, researching marketing and advertising ideas, dropping off flyers and event posters at different island businesses. All related travel and tourism business administrative tasks.

Shuttle Service: Employees are also expected to assist in driving/dispatching shuttle services on Pelee Island, which sometimes requires early morning or late night shifts.


  • Ontario F Class Driver’s License or equivalent (employer will assist in getting this if needed)
  • Legal eligibility to work in Canada
  • Proficiency in oral and written English
  • Ability to pass criminal background check
  • Minimum Ontario Secondary School Dibloma (OSSD) or equivalent
  • Outgoing, friendly personality
  • Presentation skills
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Time management skills


  • Sales and Business skills
  • Customer Service skills
  • Some proficiency in French or another language
  • CPR/First Aid training
  • General knowledge of vehicle upkeep & maintenance
  • Post-secondary education in environmental studies, biology, geography, or a related field
