Position: Conservation Programs Specialist - Habitat Management
Organization: Ducks Unlimited Canada
Location: Vermilion-Vegreville-Two Hills, Alberta, Hybrid within area.

Position Details: Full-Time, Permanent
Salary Range: $53,500 - $66,900, based on a 35-hour work week. Salary for this position will commensurate with each individual's education and/or experience as it relates to the position.

What You Will Do

As a member of the Alberta Operations Team, you will be responsible for managing all DUC habitat projects in the Vermilion/Vegreville area. Duties will include conducting field inspections, operating water control infrastructure, coordinating land management activities such as fencing, grazing and haying and monitoring DUC held conservation easements.

You need to be an enthusiastic team player and an effective communicator with the ability to build positive working relationships with fellow DUC staff, municipal and provincial government staff, project landowners, and other conservation agencies.

You possess strong leadership and interpersonal skills. You are self-motivated, enjoy a complex, changing environment and can manage numerous projects within tight deadlines.

Your minimum 1-3 years’ experience and knowledge of natural resource management, agriculture and landowner relations make you the ideal candidate for the position.

Requirements

  • A post-secondary degree or technologist diploma in environmental science, biology, agriculture or other related discipline; equivalent practical field experience will also be considered.
  • Strong communication and conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong planning, reporting, administrative and project management skills.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude.
  • Experience with GPS, MS Office and satellite imagery interpretation.
  • Experience operating ATVs.
  • Ability to work long hours outdoors and perform strenuous physical tasks.
  • Experience supervising contractors would be an asset.
  • An understanding of rural agricultural, industry and conservation practices would be considered an asset.
  • Awareness of provincial Occupational Health and Safety practices.
  • A valid class 5 driver’s license.
