Position: Political Action Alert Manager

Volunteer Opportunity

Green Neighbours Network is seeking a volunteer Action Alert Manager to help select and promote opportunities for political advocacy on the environment among our membership. Whether that’s signing petitions, phoning elected representatives, or attending demonstrations, we want politicians to know that we care about the environment and our climate.

About Green Neighbours Network of Toronto

Green Neighbours Network of Toronto (GNN) is a dynamic grassroots organization that has rapidly grown to almost 1000 individual and over 50 group members since being incorporated as a non-profit in 2020. The primary goal of the Network is to encourage and support people and groups who are helping to make neighbourhoods across the City of Toronto and GTA greener, healthier, and more sustainable. Role:

  • Identify time-sensitive action opportunities related to environmental and climate advocacy
  • Prioritize opportunities in consultation with your fellow GNN Political Advocacy team members
  • Create content to share opportunities via GNN’s communication channels (email, newsletter, social media, website)
  • Ensure priority opportunities are identified and shared with GNN members in a timely manner
  • Attend monthly online meetings of the GNN Political Advocacy team, participate in discussion and decision-making.

Time Commitment

  • Time commitment: 2-3 hours a week.
  • 6-month renewable position.
  • Start date: May 2024.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in environmental advocacy, political science, and/or communications.
  • Passion for the environment.
  • Commitment to working cooperatively and effectively with others to set goals, resolve problems, and make decisions to achieve goals.
  • Organized and detail-oriented.
  • Can maintain a work schedule to perform time-sensitive tasks.
  • Respects confidentiality.
  • Excellent communication skills in English. Other language skills would be an asset.

Orientation and Training

The Action Alert Manager volunteer will follow an onboarding process and will be supported by the GNN Political Advocacy, and GNN Communication team members throughout their volunteer experience.
