THE JANE GOODALL INSTITUTE OF CANADA SEEKS BOARD MEMBERS

Positions: Board Members
Type: nonprofit board members / unpaid
Organization: The Jane Goodall Institute of Canada
Location: remote, anywhere in Canada

The Jane Goodall Institute of Canada (JGIC) is currently seeking experienced, committed and enthusiastic individuals to join our Board of Directors for Summer / Fall 2024.

About the Jane Goodall Institute of Canada

Founded in 1977, the Jane Goodall Institute is a global, community-centred conservation organization that advances the vision and work of Dr. Jane Goodall in over 30 countries. It aims to protect wildlife and their habitats, and to empower people to be compassionate citizens to care for our shared planet. The Jane Goodall Institute of Canada furthers this work here in Canada by mobilizing local and national movements around the convergence of three crises: biodiversity loss, climate change, and environmental inequity, while amplifying Indigenous voices, engaging youth, communities, corporations and governments. In Africa, we support community-centred conservation programs in the Republic of Congo, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Tanzania, and Senegal. To learn more about our work, visit http://www.janegoodall.ca.

What is JGI Canada looking for in potential Board members?

Board members should be strategic thinking, results-oriented decision-makers who are committed to the cause. Candidates should contribute to board diversity and be able to make the time commitment (at least 5 videoconference meetings per year, two in-person or virtual retreats/meetings per calendar year, committee membership and some work expected between meetings). Estimated time commitment is 3-10 hours per month on average.

The JGIC is an equity-supportive organization that believes diversity makes us stronger. We encourage applications from persons of all sexual orientations and genders, Indigenous persons, visible minorities, persons with disabilities, current geographic locations in Canada (especially the East Coast of Canada and Northern Territories), and others with the skills and knowledge to productively engage with diverse communities.

Ideal candidates will have board and/or non-profit governance experience, and the willingness and ability to engage with others virtually. Candidates who are experienced in the following areas are strongly encouraged to apply: conservation or animal welfare; marketing & communications; fundraising; non-profit leadership; and/or experience with Indigenous relations and partnerships.

How to apply:

To apply, please send an email to Lyila Omar, Coordinator of Operations and Projects at the JGIC, at lyila@janegoodall.ca by 8pm EST Friday, May 25, 2024, including the following:

  1. Email subject line “Application for JGIC Board Membership”;
