Position: Development, Office Assistant & Marketer
Organization: Peatlands Protection Society (website pending)
Location: Delta, Surrey, New Westminster or Burnaby BC / Metro Vancouver, Greater Vancouver, Lower Mainland BC

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following.

The successful candidate will help create office forms for the Societiy. This includes such thing as an invoice, sales sheet, membership forms and other duties that may arise. This includes the following:

  • work on the Society's website that is in the process of being built, using Wordpress.org. This may include blogging and other forms of internet communications.

The successful candidate will research and design a booklet with the working title: For Peat's Sake! Don't Use Peat.

The candidate with research other alternatives using the internet and talking to local gardening shops.

The candidate will develop a price sheet for selling advertising in the booket. They will approach potential advertisers to sell advertising. Their supervisor will help and give them leads.

The successful candidate will research potential sellers of the book.

Wage: Starting, $18.75. This will rise in June.

Skills Needed: Good computer skills, a very positive "can do" attitude. knowledge of Wordpress.org, willingness to learn new things and willing to teach others as well.

Who we are. The Peatlands Protection Society is a new organization founded in 2021, to raise awareness about our disappearing peatlands and the need to protect them to reduce climate change. Currently, we have signed an MOU with Kwantlen Polytechnic University to work towards creating a world-class research/education centre, The Environmental Law Centre at UVIC created a policy paper on limiting or banning the use of peat for horticultural and gardening use. A national organization has collaborated with the Peatlands Protection Society to create and pass motions to protect Canada's peatlands.

The Successful Candidate: must be between the age of 16 and 30, as this is a government funded position.

Able to: work at home and in an office.

Benefits: The successful candidate will learn skills and knowledge necessary to start and run a nonprofit or a for profit business.

Length of employment: 16 weeks at 30 hours a week.
